Subject:It's been a long time since I've posted
Time:7:21 pm.
Things are ok in CA land. Job sucks, but I think that is universal right now. Good things are happening in other areas. I joined a band called Contradiktion and we are not only actually playing shows, but we will be in the recording studio next month and we had both a photo and video shoot on Sunday. Both went well. It's not a money making endeavor yet, but it is getting there. I joined about 4 months ago and things are just coming fast which is a little scary but cool.

I miss DC and everyone there. I'm hoping to get out there next year if everything works out ok.

If anyone is interested in checking out the band the website is http://www.contradiktion.com

The photoshoot pics are on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.260312280657644.61247.201756293179910&type=1

I'll post the actual music video when it is done.

Do I go to Seattle to see the Damned on Halloween. It's $200 for the airfair, but it will mean I can continue my quest of stalking them around the country.

Still don't get the panic. People in developing countries are getting really sick which is to be expected due to the lack of decent medical care, but why is everyone else panicking?

Subject:Grammer Police , Smoking, and Absinthe (long post)
Time:3:08 am.
So I got a promotion at work. Instead of being chained to a headset and helping old people navigate my company's website over the phone, I am doing it through e-mail. It's a nice change except that I have a guy reviewing all of my e-mails who is driving me crazy correcting "grammar mistakes". This is a guy who was in remedial English at regular college, but who took "Business English" courses while getting his MCSE at Computer Learning Center. Apparently, I have been living under a rock and was never told that Business English has a completely different set of rules to normal English. It finally came to head the other day over the word "that". Right or wrong, I'm going to write it the way this gentleman wants me to since he is my supervisor. I just want to make sure I'm not completely wrong here (don't think that I am).

Basically, he says the word "that" is a nonsensical, contemporary word and that it should be left out of the sentence if the sentence makes sense without it. That's fine, but in some cases I think it makes the sentence flow better. The best example I can give is......"Our records indicate that the account ending in 1234 is currently enrolled in service." He says that the correct way to phrase the sentence is, "Our records the account ending in 1234 is currently enrolled in service." There are other examples, but that is the one that springs to mind. Am I completely wrong???? He's driving me nuts sending me little Business English grammar tips.

------------

This brings me to smoking. I have quit for 31 days now (except for a few minor clips which consisted of taking a puff after Grammar Nazi made me lose it). Yay. I'm not completely tobacco free. I recently discovered a product from Sweden called Snus. If anyone is trying to quit. I highly recommend it. It's smokeless tobacco, but those crazy Swedes have managed to cut out 99% of the shit that is in American tobacco products. Tastes good too. To make it even better, the cost to import it from Sweden is about $4 a can (20 portions). A can will last 3-4 days. If you google Snus you'll find quite a few articles on it. Ignore the articles on Camel Snus. That's completely different stuff and really crappy in comparison.

------------

Last, but not least for all of your Absinthe fans, I'm looking to order a bottle of quality absinthe (at a affordable price). Does anyone have any suggestions on brands and places where I can purchase them?

Subject:Alcohol and Family
Time:3:55 am.
I'm looking for some advice here....

I'm play bass in a band with my cousin. He has serious alcohol issues. He's 27 and the doctors told him that if he doesn't stop drinking his liver will give up by the time he's 30. No one can get him to stop. He's under the impression that there is nothing he can do and he'll die young. Talking to him about it is like banging your head against a brick wall. I went over to a friend of his house last month and they were reminiscing about the time he pissed his pants. His response was to ask which time. My first thought was "You pissed your pants?!?!?" followed by the realization that it was not an isolated incident. Even at my worst I have never pissed myself. He seems to think it's funny and all part of this life of the party persona he has. A few weeks after that I went to dollar beer night with him. His tab was $160 at DOLLAR BEER night because he kept buying rounds for the entire bar.

Anyway, there is always plenty of beer at rehearsals. I'm not a heavy drinker there (3 beers and I play like crap), but I'm really torn on whether I should drink at all in front of him. I know that it's ultimately up to him, but should I bite the bullet, not drink and try to be the good example? I asked him and he said that will make him feel worse. Everyone seems to think that drinking in front of him is a shitty thing to do, but since there is beer there anyway, I'm almost thinking that at least the few I have will mean less that he will have if I do drink.

He was doing well for about 2 weeks (as far as I knew), but then I brought the beer this last Tuesday and he drank. Now if I hadn't brought it the guitarist would have so I really shouldn't feel guilty, but I do. Does anyone have any advice on this? Whether I drink or not the beer will be there. Shall I abstain or go ahead and drink my couple of beers? Would that be enabling him?

Just got back from seeing this with my mom. I think I would have liked it a lot more if it wasn't for all the fucking singing! Oh, and Sweeney Todd's look is even a more blatant rip off then I thought it would be. I think it's time for Mr. Depp to own up.........

Subject:Song of the South
Time:1:42 pm.
So I just finished watching a very bad bootleg copy of Song of the South in an effort to understand what all the fuss is about. I'm more confused then ever. Taking into account other movies made in the 40's, it actually seems pretty tame. Sure there is the stereotypical "yes m'am" stuff, but that was present in almost every movie. I also found it interesting that Uncle Remus and the white, stuffy, old school grandma were portrayed as being close friends. That's fairly progressive for the time. Am I completely missing something or did Disney shoot themselves in the foot by refusing to release, creating more publicity and controversy then is warranted?

Subject:Cat Name Survey
Time:1:19 pm.

This is my kitten Criswell. I named him Criswell before I actually got him and it really doesn't seem to fit. He's a Japanese Bobtail. When I named him, the crazy breeder lady said, "I guess you couldn't think of any suitable JAPANESE names for him?"

The kitten is absolutely nuts. He can fetch, open blinds and shutters, doors, and has other very scary problem solving skills and this is all at 4 months old. He also gets into everything. A few days after I got him he managed to get a shaving razor out of the bottom of a trash can and slice the hell out of his paw. Last night, he tried to jump on a ledge in my loft. He slid right off and fell straight down about 15 or so feet onto the stone tile in the entry. He's fine. I on the other hand almost had a heart attack.

Thinking about it last night I think that I might have come up with two possible Japanese names for him and I'm taking a survey to see which is the best. Option one is Kamikaze. My other choice is Hiroshima since the kitten is in a way a walking disaster. I'm curious to see what everyone thinks........

Subject:"Oh dear. This calls for a very special blend of psychology ... and EXTREME VIOLENCE!"
Time:12:14 pm.
For all of you Young Ones fans, I ran across a video this morning of Ade Edmundson (Vivian from the Young Ones) doing an "interesting" cover of Anarchy in the UK.

I realized recently what my biggest pet peeve is. I don't know when this trend started, but it is gettting worse. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions. It drives me up the wall. I'm working at a bank and I'm seeing it more and more with people calling in and wanted all of their bounced check fees reversed. It is never simply a fact that they overspent. There are always circumstances surrounding it that makes it not their fault. The latest was a women who called and wanted over $200 in fees reversed. Her account had been overdrawn over 30 times this year and fees had been waived in the past. Her reasoning was that her husband was ADD and bi-polar, therefore he was disabled and unable to balance his checkbook. It amazes me. It seems that people yell and scream about government, big business, etc infringing on their choices, but they are all ready to point the blame for the choices they make. It's like the person who yells and screams about having the right to smoke and eat what they want and then turns around and blames the tobacco industry and McDonald's for their health problems. Maybe we do all need babysitters until we can start acting like adults.

In other, sad, news. Brent Liles who was the original bassist from Social Distortion died. He was struck by a truck about a mile from my house. A guy I know had to go identify the body. Apparently, his parents didn't want to claim him and he was cremated and put in a Potter's Field. He never made a cent off of Social D, but apparently had nothing bad to say about any of them. My friend said that all he would ever say was how proud he was that they all made it and that it was his fault for fucking up and not reading contracts and getting involved with drugs. That is taking responsibility.

I have a new kitten! His name is Criswell and he's a Japanese Bobtail. He's a budle of energy and is harrassing my other cat to no end. So far, she has just been snarling at him and there have been no physical confrontations.

He's so cute!!!! So far there are no outlandish predictions though. The Amazing CriswellCollapse )
